Synopsis
The Monkey King is an action-packed family comedy that follows a charismatic Monkey and his magical fighting Stick on an epic quest for victory over 100 demons, an eccentric Dragon King, and Monkey's greatest foe of all - his own ego. Along the way, a young village girl challenges his self-centered attitude and shows him that even the smallest pebble can have a big effect on the world. 

The story is inspired by the classic Chinese novel, Journey to the West.

About
This is a demo reel which includes some of my favorite and most difficult shots that I worked on. I was responsible for animation fixes, shot cleanup, and quality control. Many of the animation fixes included multiple PSDs on characters which were needed for a clean CFX simulation and to fix any interpenetration.

Job Summary

CG Generalist | Reel FX

Overview
My job was providing overall support and performing various technical fixes throughout the pipeline, including animation, lighting, and rendering. I was responsible for fixing animation mistakes, rendering shots for review, troubleshooting technical errors, and assisting with any other quality assurance tasks.

  • Animation Cleanup​​

    • Helped to ensure the animation in each shot had no technical mistakes​

      • Cleaned up character geometry for character effects (CFX) artists​

        • Created pose shape deformers (PSDs) and blend shapes for a clean CFX simulation​

      • Fixed character and object interpenetration by modifying rig controls and keyframes

  • Pre-Lighting Cleanup

    • Rendered shots with low-quality lighting to ensure there were no technical errors for lighting artists​

      • Fixed technical mistakes in the environment and animation seen in the low-quality lighting render​

        • Ex. wrong layout, different character variants, missing assets​

  • Technical Fixes

    • Performed various technical fixes by troubleshooting different parts of the pipeline​

      • Communicated with artists and technical directors to assist with technical errors

        • Ex. asset not rendering, object not importing, pipeline issues, file errors​
